Perspective…..

Posted by dazzle @ 7:19 pm May 21, 2009

Having kids puts most things into perspective. Having your child in hospital, screaming in pain, puts most of the rest of it into perspective. Seeing other peoples kids in hospital who are so much worse off makes the 100% of stuff in perspective.

Sorry….long week

House Progress Report - 13th December 2006

Posted by dazzle @ 11:18 am December 17, 2006

Time for an update, I’ve been meaning to post some pictures for a while but trying to find my USB cable for my camera proved challenging. Having now rooted through the plethora of boxes that our stuff is living in, I’ve found it. For the first few tries I found every conceivable cable apart from the one I wanted, and being renowned for my vast collection of cables for every possible occasion, made it all the more frustrating!.

Anyhow, I’ve been busy drawing my plans for the rear extension using google sketchup. I was struggling for a while when it came to outputting the plans to scale. After trying myriad combinations of exporting to dxf, dwf, tiff, bmp and running them through other apps, I found that the solution was actually very easy. (more…)

And i’m back…

Posted by dazzle @ 5:19 pm November 9, 2006

Blimey, after an extended separation from my beloved internet connection, I’m finally back on line. So just to say a big thumbs up to Houxou, my new ISP, and a big thumbs down to both Pipex and BT, both of whom have been instumental in my temporary divorce from all things TCP/IP.

I’ll get around to posting some pictures of the house later……promise!!

The Last Post………from Dorney at least

Posted by dazzle @ 7:28 am October 17, 2006

This will be my last posting from dorney, I’m just on my way out of the door to collect the van and spend the whole day moving all of our worldly goods. I’m not sure when I’ll be back online, probably never if Pipex have their way. Having finally managed to get through to their home movers line last week to give them notice, I was told I wold recieve an email with a link that I should click to complete the online form. However, I should only do this on the 13th, which ironically enough, was a Friday.

Clicking the link, I was asked for my password and the site duly churned away looking me up….. (more…)

We’ve bought a house……Really

Posted by dazzle @ 9:02 pm October 12, 2006

Today was the day we completed the purchase of our first house, and what a day it’s been. We were expecting for the completion to happen at about 11am so we trundled off bright and early to be in Winchester by 9am to collect the oven we had won on Ebay. I’d loaded the car up with tools and other bits and bobs, leaving just enough space to slide the oven in beside it.

Arriving there a little late at 9:30, (combined thanks for my tardiness (more…)

Google SketchUp

Posted by dazzle @ 6:25 pm September 27, 2006

Whilst doing some planning for the new house, I was looking around for a simple 3D modelling package just so that I could get the feel of the rooms by knocking down some virtual walls and building extensions where I wanted them.I found that piece of software…..if you haven’t tried Google SketchUp, get your self over to sketchup.com and download the free version.

I’ve been playing with it all day and it’s remarkably easy to use.I’ve already knocked up a very passable model of my new house complete with sectioned views of the upstairs and downstairs.

Go and have a play…You’ll love it!!

We’ve bought a house……hopefully

Posted by dazzle @ 10:15 am September 20, 2006

Tammy and I have bought our first house together……well almost. Our offer has been accepted subject to us completing by October 12th, that leaves us with quite a tight schedule to get everything done but so far, everything is on track.

We are very excited about the house, it is exactly what we were after, namely a renovation project. Currently it has a bathroom and a kitchen sink, it really is the blank canvas that we have been searching for. First jobs will include installing a central heating system, and probably a full electrical rewire. The fact that I will be running new cables everywhere gives me an ideal opportunity to set in motion some of my long held home automation fantasies. (more…)

About Me...

The Hairy one is me.....although I'm in a non-beardy phase at the moment, the non hairy one is my lovely wife Tammy. the picture was taken on the beach at St Andrews, the day after the wedding of our friends, Mike & Kerry

This picture is taken in one of my favourite styles, one which always guarantees me a good shot....the well known "arms-length" technique. Doubtless my brother would despair....

By trade I am a Licensed Aircraft Engineer, I spend my working life troubleshooting systems, replacing defective components, repairing damage caused by everything from baggage loaders to bird-strikes and most importantly, certifying the safety of the aircraft.

When not at work I have interests in the modern world of computing, home automation and control and video editing. Slightly less modern are my interests in classic car restoration and drag racing, while spanning the eras is my guitar playing, from old-time blues all the way to today. Take a look at the projects page to see some of my interests and how they have spawned into new directions and new things to learn.

Please excuse the fact that the appearance of this site may change regularly.....It is very much a work in progress, I will tinker and add things as I learn them!!
